Working with on-camera flash, Ray gave a whopping big 2 minutes to get the settings on the Canon Speedlite 580EX II right and take this photo, hence Ray’s position in the center of the frame is not what I would like.
I’d been watching Syl Arena teach Speedlighting on Scott Kelby’s training site when Ray came in and sat down at his computer. When I turned back to say hi to Ray I couldn’t believe the spot of sunlight directly lighting Ray’s face perfectly. I shot off a frame, uploaded it to Lightroom and then noticed that the aperture priority setting on my camera had selected a shutter speed of 1/15th of a second. I’m not able to hand hold my camera at that slow a speed and his photo was out of focus.
Since I had the 580EXII Speedlite and off camera flash cable right in front of me (I’d been referring to it during Syl’s online Speedliting tutorial) I hooked the Speedlight and off camera cable up to my camera and took two more shots of Ray.
Double hernia surgery a month ago, oral surgery today, and an upcoming knee surgery and more rehab.

Couldn't resist shooting Ray in the light falling on him while he was in his cave with his cave toys. His patience with my requests for poses lasted only minutes. He didn't like any of the shots I took. Neither did I because Ray (he's getting better but) freezes in front of the camera. I like his beard. I know it's not gonna last long so I wanted a photo.

While outside on the porch thinking about how I could photograph the critters differently than I have been, I turned and saw my reflection over Ray inside.

My hubby and me this morning on our training hike. Please, if there is a God, let Ray be fit enough to go on our Whitney backpack. Photo by Jennifer Clark.

Even carried my Speedlight flash and cord for some off camera flash after the sun went down. That's my hubby:-)
Shame on me that I have not mentioned this before, but my husband won low net over all fields in the Mission Hills CC Seniors tournament (he almost didn’t sign up for because he didn’t feel he was playing well!) Here’s his trophy.

Late afternoon golf. I'm playing in Santa Barbara in about 2 weeks and me thinks I ought to see if I can even hit the ball.
Box of books are the books Ray will be using when he does his Book Study every Tuesday, except for the 1st Tuesday of each month.
In a world of so many great photographers and writers, I am venturing into some unknown territories, leaving comfort zones, finally very willing to practice the art of seeing. By maintaining the practice of posting daily photos, I hope to continue learning about the possibilities that I trust are out there for the taking.
