Off to an all day meeting but can’t wait to post some more photos in the next couple of days.

Playing with off camera flash, Stacy begins to play for me.

She got her cartwheel but her pants didn't hold up so well! Rip!!!!!!!!!!!

Stacy has endless ideas.

And then it was my turn......my expression tells it all. I had a great time in Joshua Tree with my camera.

Even carried my Speedlight flash and cord for some off camera flash after the sun went down. That's my hubby:-)
I’m getting ready to leave early Thursday morning for the 7 – 8 hour drive to Concord. Part of getting ready is making sure all my lighting equipment is working and I have all the parts for the many different groupings of photos I’ll be shooting at the 3 day Quinquinennial Legacy Weekend I’ll be attending with approximately 250 other women. I’m headed off to bed with all the lighting equipment still set up in the living room. One of the 580 EX II Speedlites, triggered by Pocket Wizards, doesn’t fire every time. The flash settings, on manual, are set exactly the same as the other Speedlite/Pocket Wizard setup which fires every time.
My back is better (after having gone out last week). I’ve packed up all the camera gear I’ll be bringing to the Digital Landscape Workshop Series in Yosemite that runs from January 16th – January 19th. And I’m excited, and as usual, somewhat nervous. I’m always excited to learn, but I’m also excited because I know so much more about how to use my camera now. I also have so much more of a working knowledge of exposure and composition. So hopefully, I’ll be more present for what is being taught as opposed to being distracted with trying to figure out what all the controls and menus on my camera do.
Tomorrow Ray and I drive into LA (separately) for the Thursday night meeting. Then Friday, January 14th and 15th I’m off on my own, headed toward Yosemite. Two days to play. I might bring snowshoes as I understand the Sierra has plenty of snow.
LR will notice a number of big charges on the Visa card: 4 new tires, new brakes in the front, registered and tagged license, and a renewed and changed address on my DL (I moved 6 years ago!). Then of course I need Sorel boots (my son told me about them) seeing as I’ll probably be standing in snow at 5am for a couple of hours and then again around 3:30pm until dark each day of the workshop. It’s a good thing REI is on the way into LA!
Won’t be posting much here once the workshop begins. The first DLWS I took last year in Moab, UT was so intense I barely got 4 hours of sleep for the 3 workshop nights.
Just so you don’t forget who I am:-)

Me. Photo by Cindy Swain.
During the surgery 4 weeks ago, another patient had shared with me (while I was in the outside waiting room, all bandaged up and waiting for results hoping the mohs doctor had found all the margins clean) that I might want to rub Bio Oil (found at Walgreen’s and other places) on the scar (after two weeks) to facilitate minimal scarring….. the patient had shared he’d had great results using the oil on new and existing scars. My doctor hadn’t heard of Bio Oil (which is not cheap), but casually mentioned I could use vitamin E oil. I do believe the Bio Oil has worked wonders.

Update on my surgerical face scar....I'm happy with how this looks after only about 4 weeks of healing.
While looking at the uploaded photos Ray took of my healing scar, I cropped this one photo and am posting it ’cause I love the way the facial hair is lit! And, when I just look at my lips, I see my sister Ginny’s lips. Hmmmmm, I’ve never noticed that are lips are so similar before.

Sidelit facial hair....boy I have alot of facial hair.

Ray's best to date.

At our turn around point on the hike today.

Lakeshore shadows got me. Used a preset filter called B&W for Landscapes (Canyons).
The call of Wilson’s Sporting Goods was irresistible. Ray’s birthday is 8/26 and I told him his birthday present was to go shopping at Wilson’s. On the way home we were gifted with the sun setting behind our favorite (and LR’s too) peaks.

A vision for you. Minarettes, Ritter and Banner.
Found this message when we reached the top of the hill this morning. A backpacking friend calls this trail graffiti. But Stacy and I wanted to take our pictures with the I love you. I think Stacy is going to use another one of the seated poses I shot for her husband’s Valentine card.
I haven’t a clue what is going on. This is the second day I have felt like I’m coming down with something. I have no energy, foggy brain and tire with any exertion.
I did however pick up my camera as evidenced by this shot of me photographing myself in the large mirrored closet doors in the guest room where I’ve been sleeping since Ray’s two operations.

We did very little that we didn’t absolutely want to do today.
Most of the morning, after I woke up at 8:30am!, I worked on getting these blog entries up. Tina played with her new crossword puzzle.
We went out for a 40 min hike/stroll.
We changed and went for lunch downstairs in this gorgeous Four Season’s Hotel we are staying at for 3 days. Tina got us a great rate LR.
Back to the room to put on our spa clothes. We both had massages at 3pm but wanted to steam first.
Following really good massages and all kinds of pampering, I loved Colin who did my massage, we jacuzzied, and showered for the 4th or 5th time today.
Back to the room (which is as big and pretty a room as I’ve seen) we dressed and actually put on makeup for the first time. Down we went for a Sushi dinner served from 5pm to 9pm in a comfortable room with couches, tables and chairs in front of a huge fireplace downstairs in the hotel.
Back to the room, quite satisfied, for the results show of Dancing with the Stars. Tina resumed working on her puzzle.
What a day.
Here we are all cleaned up…..

Here I am after a day of pampering at the Four Season's Hotel in Jackson.

And here is Tina holding the menu we ordered $80 worth of Sushi from.
Today was overcast. Ray was sore from yesterday’s hike. I had domain website stuff going on. And the tone was set.
What a glorious day I had after I got email back once the my domain site decided to allow connections again after shutting down for a few hours. It’s time for updating my sites. Erik in the UK is working on transferring my stuff from my present web host. We have been in contact daily. He has been working on some really cool Front Pages for my new blog site on WordPress and my photo portfolio on Smugmug. Gottago’s Adventure site will keep it’s same look and hopefully will stop causing Erik so much trouble moving it to his domain for web hosting. Hopefully soon these 3 sites will be accessed and linked on one URL – www.lindajeffers.com.
I played lots and lots of Word Twist on Facebook. I am totally hooked. Damn Cindy. She topped my high score today by 2 points.
I watched many Adobe Lightroom tutorials online. I’m becoming so much more familiar with this software. Knowing how to use it has saved me lots of time. Time I’ll have no trouble quickly filling.
Back to the rest of my evening. Ray is in bed and I figure I have another 45 minutes before I join him.
In a world of so many great photographers and writers, I am venturing into some unknown territories, leaving comfort zones, finally very willing to practice the art of seeing. By maintaining the practice of posting daily photos, I hope to continue learning about the possibilities that I trust are out there for the taking.
