Welcome!

Linda JeffersIn a world of so many great photographers and writers, I am venturing into some unknown territories, leaving comfort zones, finally very willing to practice the art of seeing. By maintaining the practice of posting daily photos, I hope to continue learning about the possibilities that I trust are out there for the taking.

Come join me on my journey!

Hot, long last training hike.

Wednesday morning Ray drops Jen and me off at the I-10 underpass to backpack from 25 minutes from home up to Big Bear, CA. in the San Bernadino Mtns. Jen and Melissa have both backpacked from the US/Mexico border on the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) to beyond Idllywild. We still have to backpack from the Seven Pines Trailhead junction on the PCT down to the I-10 freeway. We will finish that section on a weekend trip. Unfortunately, Melissa is unable to do this portion of Section C with us.

Here is a link to the Murray Hill Peak Hike we took today, loaded with full backpack weight minus food and extra camera gear weight.

Murray Hill Peak in the distance is a local 7 mile, 2000 feet elevation gain, hot hike. Jen and I started today's hike up to the top at 6am.

About 40 minutes into the hike we join the Clara Burgess Trail. http://www.mypalmsprings.com/entertainment/outdoor-activities/hiking/the-clara-burgess-trail.html

When I did a search on Clara Burgess I found this interesting history on the Desert Riders.

We aren't looking forward to the 91 degree predicted temperature today. However it is important that we heat acclimate. I've gotten heat exhaustion before and it's not fun.

It's always a joy to see the blooming cactus. This year and last year have been bad wildflower years.

Last Saturday at the Salton Sea.

Erika, Jen and I spent late afternoon and evening at the Salton Sea last week. What a joy. And what a great opportunity it was for me as Erika knows so much more than I about flash. This was a first shooting with a skilled photographer. I loved it. I keep saying I need to join a camera club and not be so solo learning photography. Anyone local reading this, let me know if you want to go shooting sometime, ok?

Erika taught Jen and me a lot.

Erika shot this photo of me. She shoots with flash a lot and has an eye for when the light is right for what kind of shot.

Erika knew this background would be great.

Before we headed out to light write an old Gas Station (I posted this picture a few days ago.), I took a couple of shots out over the Salton Sea.

PCT, Here We Come.

This is the I-10 Freeway underpass in the San Gorgonio Pass near the Whitewater River. Erika, Jen and I went down and light wrote with flash color. Didn't see any PCT hikers, nor anyone else sleeping under the underpass. This is where Jen and I begin our 60 mile backpack up to Big Bear next week.

Roger drove up to our park cars while in the desert photographing the moonlit windmills. Thought we were in big trouble until we found out Roger shoots weddings and owns lots of camera gear. We had fun hanging with him for a while.

Passenger Seat Entertainment.

Driving home from LA last night, I spent most of the two and a half hour drive looking for shots. Ray never complained that I wasn’t really present for conversation either:-) It’s amazing how I can get lost and time flies when my eye is to the viewfinder. I believe they call my love of photography an obsession.

PCT 2013, A Backpack from Warner Springs to Hwy 74.

Jen, Melissa and I backpacked a section of the PCT from Warner Springs to Palms to Pines Hwy 74 above our home a couple of months ago.
They have been waiting for me to show some of the photos I shot. At the WPPI Convention I bought Animoto‘s video software.

Click the link below to watch my first attempt at putting together a slideshow of some of the backpacking photos, hopefully showing how much fun we had.

After clicking on the link above, viewing is best when enlarged for full screen (bottom right). And if your stream is slow and stops click in the bottom right corner (in the small screen view) to change to one of the these different stream sizes:  480p (good for computers), 360p (for smart phones).
