Welcome!

Linda JeffersIn a world of so many great photographers and writers, I am venturing into some unknown territories, leaving comfort zones, finally very willing to practice the art of seeing. By maintaining the practice of posting daily photos, I hope to continue learning about the possibilities that I trust are out there for the taking.

Come join me on my journey!

Please, what is this thing I’ve photographed?

At 4:35pm, 25 minutes before the sun went down behind the San Jacinto mountains, I walked outside and started looking for something to photograph that wasn’t being blown by the strong winds we are having. I can usually find something interesting in the trunks of the palm trees.

Here is what I found this afternoon. I haven’t a clue what this creature is. I’d say its length is almost an inch long. I couldn’t tell if it was alive or not. What it looked like was just an empty translucent shell of something that had previously been living. I didn’t dare touch it, just in case it was still alive and liked to bite. But how could it be alive, I could see right through the flimsy, see through skin/casing.

Now this thing looks like it could have been alive in these photos. How could this thing not blown away in the high winds if it hadn’t been hanging on with those knarly and quite hairy front legs?

If you know what this is, please let me know.

It looks like a crustacean. If it’s a cicada, those things are freaky. I was in Ohio one year when they had their coming out party – it was like being in an Alfred Hitchcock movie!
